Paul and Alan Whitfield – Guisborough

Why we chose franchising
We wanted a well-established organisation which can help and support new franchisees with business and training and increase the potential for success.

What we did before taking up a franchise
Paul was a student but had worked for an IT training company and gained retail experience at Safeways.

Alan ran a local engineering business.

How we raised the finance
We used savings

The training and support we received from our franchisor
The support from CHIPS has been excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Help is always a call away.

The challenges we have faced
Dealing with banks, insurance, accountancy, site location and general setting-up requirements. Making the correct decisions to keep within the spreadsheet business plan overheads without a track record.

Our advice to someone thinking of buying their first franchise
Make sure you get the correct product or business model that suits you and then find the right franchisor. Take time and ask other franchisees their advice and draw on their experience. You have to want to run your own business.

Our plans for the future
To make CHIPS Guisborough a successful, popular store by following the guidance given by CHIPS to achieve this goal.

Paul has left the CHIPS franchise system and has reopened his store as Excite Games.

CHIPS wishes Paul all the best for the future
