Steve Morton – Hartlepool

I had worked for CHIPS for 14 years, starting as a Saturday lad when I was at college. Over the years I worked my way up to store manager and then Group area Manager, running the day-to-day operations of the six company stores. Owning my own franchise was the next logical step.

Chris Muckell – CHIPS Ashford

I’d always wanted to work for myself in a retail environment, and being an avid gamer, a video games store was the best fit for my interests. I wanted to be in business in something I know and enjoy. I knew that if I’d set up on my own as a solo site independent I would struggle to survive, so decided franchising was the best avenue to take as I could rely on support of the franchisors and their experience and buying power.

The former CHIPS Group Area Manager, once responsible for the day-to-day operations of all the video games chain’s company stores has found himself at the sharp end again – back behind the counter. For Steve, 32, has opened his own CHIPS franchise and is now his own boss.
