Gordon Brandon’s hard work has scooped him a top award.

The 66-year-old Accounts General Manager has just been named as CHIPS Employee of the Year at the national chain’s annual award ceremony.

Gordon, who lives in Redcar, joined the Middlesbrough-based games chain two years ago as Accounts Assistant to cover maternity leave after running his own garden supply business.

His talents and expertise were soon recognized and in March 2006 he was promoted, taking charge of all Chipsworld Ltd and CHIPS Franchise Ltd’s accounts and general office administration.

The Employee of the Year Award is made to the staff member who “goes the extra mile” for the benefit of the whole CHIPS network. It was made at the 5th annual CHIPS Christmas Conference held at Ramside Hall in County Durham.

The award, sponsored by Microsoft’s Xbox 360, was presented to Gordon by Simon Bray, Microsoft’s UK Retail Business Manager. He received an engraved trophy, inscribed plaque and ¬£250.

CHIPS Joint Managing Director Don McCabe said: “In the last two years the CHIPS chain has grown by a third and we now have 30 stores across the UK. Our office and accounts systems have had to grow and alter to cope with this expansion and Gordon has been very instrumental in smoothing the way.

“Although he is only supposed to work part-time he is in the office practically every day, including weekends and really gives it his all. He is extremely well-organised, very conscientious and well-respected within the network but he also has a sense of humour which is very necessary in our business.”

Fellow Joint Managing Director Nik Agar added: “We are extremely fortunate to have Gordon. His efforts have helped make CHIPS what it is today and we hope he stays with us for a long time.”
