CHIPS IN RUNNING FOR FOUR NATIONAL AWARDS

CHIPS, the Teesside-based video games chain, has been shortlisted for FOUR national industry awards.

The MCV Excellence Awards event is the highlight of the UK’s video games calendar when all the big players gather to honour excellence within the industry. The ceremony will take place on April 23.

With almost 40 companies in the running for an accolade, competition is extremely tough and CHIPS, which has its Head Office in Middlesbrough, has been shortlisted four times.

CHIPS is a finalist in the following categories:

High Street Retailer – CHIPS is one of five finalists and will be battling for the title against HMV, Game, Gamestation & Asda.

Retail Innovation - Judges have been impressed by CHIPS very own branded accessories range which they have selected for the shortlist.

Star Store – CHIPS Dudley, run by Hartlepool-born franchisee Gav Pearson. CHIPS Dudley scooped CHIPS Store of the Year Award 2008. Gav, who was born and raised in Hartlepool, visits the town often as he and his wife, Sharon (nee Casey) have family in the town.

Gav’s parents Jan and John Pearson live in Station Road, Greatham, and Sharon’s mum also lives in Hartlepool.

MCV judges have been impressed by the store’s excellent customer service, choice of stock and presentation.

CHIPS Dudley arranges lots of promotion days, raises money for charity and Gav and his staff have made a great success of the store. 

Other store finalists in this category are: GAME; HMV ; GameStation and Asda.

Store Manager – CHIPS Hereford’s manager Richard Pascoe. Richard, who now divides his time between CHIPS Hereford and Gloucester, won the CHIPS Employee of the Year Award 2008. Other finalists in this category include managers from HMV, Asda and GAME in Oxford Street, London.

“To be chosen as a finalist in four out of the five retail categories is a huge honour,” said Don McCabe, Joint Managing Director of Chipsworld Ltd and CHIPS Franchise Ltd.

“We are the only independent retailer in the High Street Retail section and we are delighted our own CHIPS accessories range has been chosen as a retail innovation.”

Fellow Joint MD Nik Agar, who masterminded the CHIPS accessories range, said: “To have two individuals – Gav Pearson and Richard Pascoe singled out as UK finalists is also a great achievement and we are delighted their great efforts have been recognised.”

The winners will be chosen by a 100-strong panel of video games retail experts and announced at the MCV Awards which will be held at The Brewery in London on April 23.

CHIPS has 31 stores across the UK from Glasgow to the south coast. All but, sell and trade new and second-hand consoles, games and accessories.
