SPIDEY HITS TOWN

WATCH out web heads – Spider-Man’s in town.

CHIPS, the national video games chain based in Middlesbrough, has managed to bag a very rare life-sized model of Spidey – one of only eight made in the world.SPIDERMAN HITS TOWN
The red & blue hero has been given pride of place on top of the UK’s biggest independent retailer’s head offices in Borough Road, Middlesbrough.

The web-swinging wonder certainly raised a smile during discussions with Middlesbrough Planning Department and is bound to cause a stir.

CHIPS has also taken the precaution of informing the local police just incase a passing motorist or shopper mistakes the figure for real.

“Apparently there were only eight of these figures commissioned for the release of Spider-Man 3: The Movie (the video game) in the world and only one was shipped to the UK. It was designed by Studio Onyx in Australia and actually made in Germany,” said Nik Agar, CHIPS joint Managing Director.

“We are absolutely delighted Activision, the Spider-Man 3 games publisher, chose CHIPS and we are determined to make good use of him.

“Obviously, this has taken quite a lot of planning to get him up there safely and we couldn’t have managed without the help of Tiger Scaffolding – a member of the British Safety Council. It has made sure he gets up onto the roof in one piece and, very importantly, stays there securely.”

“It is a full life-sized model and incredibly realistic – you expect him to jump up at any moment. We thought it wise to inform Middlesbrough Police as it is so life-like and we certainly don’t want worried by-passers to contact the police unnecessarily,” said Nik.

SPIDERMAN HITS TOWN¬†CHIPS already has a number of video game character figures in its stores but Spidey is the first to escape from the building. “This figure is unique as there is only one in the country,” added Nik.

CHIPS now has more than 30 outlets from Glasgow to the South coast and each buys, sells and trades new and second-hand consoles, games and accessories.

Stores in the Tees Valley include Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool, Guisborough, Darlington & Northallerton.
